Hi! My name is Tarushi Ravindra and I am majoring in Industrial Management and minoring in Business Analytics at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Having been a bearcat for 3 and a half years now, I can't believe I am a senior already! Come, join me while I take you through my journey of becoming who I am today and where I am heading to. Oh and I promise it'll be an interesting read!
Life before UC
Originally from Rajasthan (in Northern part of India), I was actually born in South India where I spent most of my childhood in Chennai and then my family (consisting of my parents and younger brother) moved to New Delhi when I was in 7th grade. Having experienced this transition from south India to north India was a new and challenging experience because of the different culture, language, lifestyle, education system etc. It was almost as overwhelming as moving from India to America! But being an adaptive person, I loved both the places and can relate to the multi-cultural system in India. My hobbies in school were reading novels and writing stories/poems and singing in the school choir. Also, I am an avid blogger since high school ended and I share my experiences gained and lessons learned at UC in my blog 'I Yam What I Yam'.
I am a big family person since the good things my parents do for their family inspires me to have strong values. It is solely because of my parents I am able to dream big and live big. When my relatives and friends were against the decision of me studying abroad, my parents stood up for me and made it possible for me to become the first person from my community to step out of India. Despite major financial issues, they chose to support me instead of their business and themselves. Having experienced such love , hardship and dedication, I remember sitting on my airplane seat and saying "This is it. Our dreams are becoming reality now and I am going to make this big."

My Bearcat Life at UC
When I initially chose UC to go to college, my aim was to get a global exposure, flourish academically in a competitive environment and gain work experience in UC’s excellent co-op program. Not only did all my goals get fulfilled at UC early on in college life but also my dreams became bigger and goals multiplied since I realized I had more potential to be a leader, develop my personality and set an example as a successful international student and a business major. UC most definitely fulfills my eagerness to learn and grow. To begin with, I chose Industrial Management (in business school) as my major since it is a blend of engineering and business that helps me learn about the ‘best of both worlds’. I have loved taking engineering calculus classes and then rushing to my Accounting or Business Law class right after. This mix of technical and management subjects equips me with logical and analytical skills as well as business acumen. One of my biggest goals that I achieved at UC was getting a co-op as an Indirect Sourcing intern at the corporate Headquarters of Kroger Co. Working in a real business environment and making a difference in the company and to numerous customers has been a meaningful and an exhilarating experience for me. I like how I can realistically relate my classroom lessons to my projects at work and vice-versa since it makes my educational experience complete. I couldn’t have asked for a better internship experience because of my holistic work-exposure, my supportive and inspiring department team and the various opportunities provided in Associate Resource Groups and intern events. Being a Global Student At UC, I have the privilege of being part of many different communities. Being one of the 3,300 international students in UC has given me a unique, holistic perspective as a person, student leader and a business student. Living in a different continent altogether, staying focused and competitive is a challenging experience but it also has made me become a strong, independent and a driven person. Also, I have learned so much by being involved in a variety of student organizations where I meet other passionate people who make a difference by selflessly working to make UC a better place. Goals Lastly, I believe that all the things I have been involved in so far are bringing me closer to my ultimate goal which is, to etch my name in the world as a global business leader. I want to be a global entrepreneur in the field of e-commerce and supply chain management. I want to combine the concepts of e-commerce and supply chain for better and efficient trade between customers and businesses. My plan is to use my knowledge of Industrial Management to work in the supply chain field and use the skills learned in my Business Analytics minor to work through the e-commerce field. I am also networking with other like-minded people in my business fraternity and other organizations and will use the skills/experiences gained from my involvement at UC and Kroger. Being an ambitious person, I want to be the face of Forbes Magazine or be featured as the ‘Business Person of the Year’ in Fortune one day. UC has given me the courage to think big and be big and I definitely won’t stop until I reach my goals. Like I mentioned earlier, my dreams have multiplied because of UC and I cannot wait to make my alma mater proud of me. |
